Sawai Gandharva was a renowned Indian classical vocalist from the Kirana gharana. He was born on January 19, 1886, in Kundgol, a small town in the Dharwad district of Karnataka. His real name was Ramachandra Kundgokar, but he later came to be known as Sawai Gandharva, which means "the one who sings with a sweet voice." Sawai Gandharva was trained by his guru, Abdul Karim Khan, who was a well-known musician of the Kirana gharana.
